5 Facts About….Krishna

Lord Ganesh is a popular deity that many people bring into their homes, as is Lord Krishna, one of the most famous incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

Unfamiliar with Lord Krishna? Here are five interesting and unique facts about this dynamic deity:

* Krishna means “dark” or “dark blue” which is why he is depicted as having skin in this shade.

* He lived for 125 years, and he represents divine joy and love, and the destroyer of all pain and suffering.

* In his human form, Krishna was born to be the son of Devaki, who was the sister of the demon kind Kamsa. It is believed that he was born between 3200 and 3100 BC.


* Krishna appears in many Hindu myths and stories, sometimes as a child, sometimes playing a flute. He originally spoke the epic Bhagavad Gita, which is found within the historical epic, the Mahabharata written by Vedavyasa.

*Lord Krishna had over 16,000 wives, although people are more familiar with his first 8 wives.
